Volunteer attorney successfully helps Navy member with a divorce settlement

A Navy servicemember needed pro bono help with a divorce after his wife served him with divorce papers and refused to allow any visitation with his son. Distraught, the servicemember discussed his case with a military legal assistance attorney, who referred his case to the ABA Military Pro Bono Project. The Project connected the servicemember with a volunteer attorney who helped him reach a favorable settlement that addressed a number of issues, including the division of personal and real property, tax implications, and child custody and support. Most important to the servicemember was the establishment of a child custody and visitation plan that allows him to remain active in his son’s life.
