This Week’s Pro Bono Success Story
June 9, 2010
A soldier killed in action in Iraq left fifty percent of his death gratuity under his Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance Policy for the benefit of his sister’s disabled minor daughter. The Defense Finance Accounting Service would not pay out on the policy without a conservatorship or trust first established for the child. The Military Pro Bono Project was able to recruit a law firm to handle this matter for no cost on behalf of the deceased soldier’s family so that his niece could receive the insurance benefit.
