Another Military Pro Bono Project Success Story

June 28, 2011

A Marine stationed in California had over 20 fraudulent charges on his credit report, totally approximately $40,000, in Oklahoma. The Marine had filed a police report and an affidavit with the Federal Trade Commission, suspecting that his identity had been stolen. The Marine wrote letters to the three credit bureaus to dispute all of the debts. He was informed that he would need to appear in court in Oklahoma to attempt to set aside the four default judgments. The Military Pro Bono Project located an Oklahoma attorney who offered to provide pro bono help to this Marine. Within days, this attorney resolved this matter. The attorney discovered that these default judgments were against another individual who has the same name as this Marine, and the attorney was able get the default judgments removed from the Marine’s credit reports.
