Volunteer Attorney Helps Marine with Personal Injury Lawsuit
A young Marine needed legal assistance after a personal injury lawsuit was brought against him. When the Marine was in high school, an opposing high school athlete was injured in a competitive sporting event with the Marine. The guardian of the high school athlete brought suit against the Marine, along with the school district and referee’s association, alleging that “illegal moves” had caused the injury. Facing the possibility of having a large judgment entered against him, the Marine contacted a military legal assistance attorney who referred his case to the ABA Military Pro Bono Project. The Project located a volunteer attorney who successfully contested the suit and the case was dismissed.
