With Pro Bono Attorney’s Help, A Sailor’s Vehicle Was Returned to Him After Being Towed and Sold During Deployment
August 3, 2020
A Navy servicemember was deployed overseas and left his vehicle in the care of a friend. When he returned, he could not locate his car. After calling several towing companies, he learned that, while deployed, a towing company towed and sold his vehicle without notice or a court order, violating the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA). He visited his legal assistance office for help, and his case was placed with a pro bono attorney through the ABA Military Pro Bono Project.
The attorney negotiated with the towing company, and eventually was able to come to a favorable agreement with the company. The Sailor had his vehicle returned to him.
