Wife of a Sailor in a Coma after a Serious Motorcycle Accident Granted Guardianship with Help of Pro Bono Attorney

October 11, 2021

A Navy servicemember was involved in a serious motorcycle accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury and the amputation of one of his legs. He was in a coma and was non-responsive. His wife needed to seek guardianship over him so that she could apply for benefits on his behalf and manage the couple’s property. She visited a military legal assistance office, and her JAG referred her case to the ABA Military Pro Bono Project. The Project then connected her with a pro bono attorney. With the help of her pro bono attorney, the sailor’s wife was granted guardianship to care for her husband.
